The Open Nest Autumn Residency is a 10-day program for a single musician or sound-based artist seeking deep immersion in their creative practice. Hosted in the tranquil rural landscape of Vavla, the residency offers a contemplative environment where sound and silence intertwine, allowing the rhythms of village life and the surrounding nature to shape the artistic process. The residency welcomes composers, performers, songwriters, producers, sound artists, improvisers, and interdisciplinary musicians. During their stay, the resident artist works independently on a self-directed project, with the intention of composing and developing new material, such as the core of an album, to be completed and finalised after returning home, carrying the imprint of place into its final form.
Alongside focused solo work, the artist is invited into a small number of carefully curated encounters, including one-to-one artistic conversations, guided walks, and moments of shared inquiry exploring how environment, tradition, and community can open new musical pathways. The residency begins alongside Musical Promenade in Vavla, the village’s annual music festival, offering the resident artist the opportunity to witness and participate in how music is shared within a small rural community. As part of the program, the artist is also invited to lead a workshop with local artists, fostering an open exchange around music-making, process, and creative structure.
The residency includes:
- Private accommodation in Vavla
- Dedicated workspace tailored to the artist’s needs
- Daily meals and snacks
- One-to-one guided conversations and personalised artistic mentoring
- Walks and guided exploration of the village and surrounding landscape
- Attendance at the Musical Promenade in Vavla (Saturday 16 May)
- Transportation to and from Larnaca Airport (for international artists)
